Movie review A Knight’s Tale (2001)

Few movies this summer looked as positively silent as A Knights Tarradiddle. With its Camelot reckon bombarded by contemorary music from the likes of Queen and War, this picture looked like a disaster. In the lead-in, dashing loretta Young Heath Book who last appeared in the overbloated The Nationalist. If this movie taught me anything, its never underestimate the power of writer- managing director Brian Helgeland. True, the guy did co-write the screenplay to the disasterous The Mailman, but he also north Korean won an Acadamy Award for his vivid work on L.A. Confidential and made a big splash directing Payback. His new film A Knights Story is zilch more than a fun time at the movies.

In A Knights Tale, Ledger plays a barbarian who assumes the part of royal line so that he crataegus laevigata be allowed to take part in jousting competitions. After winning several matches, Daybook begins to make a little money and becomes smitten with a young woman whos heart he hopes to win.

As stated earlier, the celluloid uses contemporary music, modern dance and some acquaint day duologue. But instead then comely intrusive, these elements actually make A Knights Tale thouroughly gratifying. Credit Helgeland with pickings some interesting chances. Hes fashioned a picture thats reminiscent of George Romeros creative Knightriders, a film in which biker gangs engage in jousting tournaments while atop of their motorcycles.

Ledger is terrific here. In fact, he does everything in A Knights Tale that he was unable to pull off in The Patriot. Although he put away a valorous effort in that video, he seems much more comfortable in this function and really seems be having a good time as is the rest of the cast. Cross Addy and Alan Tudyk are hilarious as Ledgers right hand men. Freshman Shannyn Sossamon (who greatly resembles Angelina Jolie) is graceful as the adult female of Heaths affection. Rufus Sewell is understated as the viallain. It is Paul Bettany as Geoff Chaucer, yet, that steals the show as the writer world Health Organization beomes Ledgers warm up act in front jousting tournaments.

The last time we saw film director Helgeland, he was at the reigns of Payback (a cinema in which he was mysteriously replaced towards the end of production), a brilliantly dark and calleous crime thriller starring Mel Gibson. With A Knights Tale, Helgeland shows a softer side. He besides shows an incredibly originative side for as outstanding as some of his previous films were, they werent quite as off the wall as this.

A Knights Tale isnt exactly brobdingnagian in telescope. Its not Braveheart, or Gone With the Wind. But it is super well directed and total of terrifying performances. Its a picture show full of action, humour, romance, and a certain magical quality that actually makes it worth sightedness. A Knights Tale is the first-class honours degree really fun film of the summer. Lets hope theres more to come.

The motion-picture show was quixotic, adventurous, funny and kind of perdictable, no offense, it was an amazing movie all the actors were capital.

I thought process this was an awing movie! It not only was humorous, it was well done and had some great details (like the armour and lances). Everyone should see it!

I wouldnt mind playing with Heath Ledgers taradiddle, not i little bit.

This is a fine movie…ive seen it a chiliad times and i would still watch it some other thousand times…And i really like the Black Knite..Martin Luther King Jr. Edward…

Movie review Cheaper By The Dozen (2003)

Steve St. Martin is an incredibly talented individual. Has been for years. It saddens me to look him waste his time in pictures like Bringing Down the House because hes so much better than that stale real. While his new motion picture Cheaper By the Dozen is wagerer than that misbegotten comedy, it still cheapens Martins stock in my book.

In this new drollery, Martin plays the ultimate family man. He has no pick for he and his lovely married woman (played by the forever and a day likable Bonny Hunt) receive been blessed (and sometimes cursed) with twelve children. The plot of land thickens when Martin is offered his dream job (football coach-and-four of his Alma Matta). So he packs up and takes his optimistic wife and less than thrilled pout to the big city where acclimating proves to be no easy task.

Cheaper By the XII is meant as harmless, family entertainment, but its inability to walk that fine billet between insidious humor and over the top farce made it extremely concentrated to sit through. Lend to that, the inevitable sentimentality that goes along with a film of this nature, and you have a movie that narrowly escapes disaster.

Sure, there are funny moments here. Steve Martins wit is as sharp as ever and so is his physical comedy. I also love the manner he and Bonnie Holman Hunt play sour of each other. Theyre the pure team. I was besides somewhat diverted by Sir Frederick Ashton Kutcher wHO spends the entire film making playfulness of his own public persona. Yes, its a one-joke gag but it works. Even Kutcher chum and Punkd partner in crime Dax shows up in a brief cameo. It should be noted, however, that Kutchers screen time is limited to around vII minutes, which is odd given that hes all over the ad run. As for the lie of the humor, it just doesnt know when to take leave. There is an all too obvious sequence in which a birthday party is crashed and its punctuated by a catapulted Martin landing atop a helpless child. Its a dumb, over the top moment, and certainly one I could of through without. Oh, and did I citation that during the duration of this film, both a snake and a frog get loose wreaking havoc amongst unsuspecting houseguests? These gags were highly easy and, ultimately, pretty unfunny.

The kids in Cheaper By the XII range from sweet to annoying. Hilary Duff seems as if shes recitation from discriminative stimulus cards and as cute as she is, she doesnt bedazzle as a great deal as some of the other young talent out there (get word Keisha Castle-Hughes in Giant Rider or Emma and Sarah Bolger in In America). Uncle Tom Welling of Smallville fame could become a star, but this certainly isnt the plastic film that will break him into the big fourth dimension. As is the guinea pig with most of the kids in this scene, he isnt really tending much of a chance to polish.

It is the talent and natural demeanor of both Martin and Hunt that keep this video remotely fair to middling. Most of the characters in this picture act in a completely selfish manner, and I was really daunted by it. Kids volition be kids (I have two myself) but the fashion in which some of the teenagers and even adults acted, felt false to me. Cheaper By the Dozen ends with a crisis of sorts. One that brings the entire family together again, swathe everything up in a nice small bow. This is fine in some movies, merely I didnt buy into it here because everything felt so processed in the low place.

As I watched the mediocre Cheaper By the Twelve, I was constantly reminded of some other picture in which Martin played a family man. The far superior and much more textured Parentage. That flick was super funny, touch and honest in its depiction of that mad thing called family, and it knew when to hold back. While Cheaper By the Dozen does feature deuce sweet performances, theyre undermined by inadequate writing and a want of constraint and moving picture making smarts.

Being a fan of both the book and the original version of this film, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this updated version. I agree that at that place wasnt alot of time invested in the relationship with the kids, only there was 10 of them! I thought Bonny Hunt aNS Steve St. Martin were staring and its a nice family celluloid and I believe that it should be recommended higher than your brushup.

I thought this flick had a lot of promise, just I could have used a piddling more Aston.

Cheaper by the twelve was frippery, but ‘tween Martin and Hunt it was enough fun to

Movie review Solaris (2002)

Solaris is a photographic film that will probably separate audiences more then any other picture this year. Challenging and provocative, this sci-fi love story was produced by James Cameron, but dont go in expecting a big, extra effects extravaganza, because director Steven Soderbergh takes a different road. This is a small, quiet film, and I found it very effective.

George Clooney plays a psychologist mourning the dying of hi wife. While trying to put his life together, he is asked to journey to a blank space station called Solaris, to determine wherefore the scientists on add-in have cut off contact with Worldly concern. When Clooney arrives, he finds that the gang are not at all themselves, and within a short period of time, he begins to have strange visions.

Solaris will no doubtfulness bore many people with its pacing (even if it only is xcviii minutes long), but Ive always felt that a movie doesnt have to move like a slug train to be compelling. Its authoritative that audiences go into this cinema in the right frame of creative thinker. This is science fiction, but Solaris is more of a cerebral story. This is not a movie with action and laser gun for hire battles. Solaris is the thinking mans science fiction film.

Steven Soderbergh is one of the about exciting motion-picture show makers about and he takes an enormous chance with this project, specially after break through with commercial hits like Erin Brockovich, Traffic, and Oceans 11. Simply then thats one of the things I sexual love about him. He makes the movies he wants to progress to. He regular took a big chance with his last plastic film, the small seen experimental gem Total Frontal. Piece his claim on Solaris (a remaking based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem) whitethorn pose questions and theories that might be beyond mass audiences comprehension, it is, at heart, a simple test into how we as people deal with loss and feelings of guiltiness.

In many ways, this feels like a Stanley Kubrick film with its metaphors and highly intellectual approach at a number of subjects including that age old debate between faith and science.

And spell Im on the topic of Kubrick, I have read a few reviews that suggested Solaris is nothing more than than Eyes Wide Shut meets 2001: a space Oddysey. Is that supposed to be some tolerant of affront? I, for one, thought that was a fantastic picture. And like that masterpiece, Im sure Solaris will be misunderstood by many world Health Organization see it.

Solaris is also a love story, but I wouldnt call up it a fully developed one. Simply then, I dont think its supposed to be. Soderbergh treats the romance as a series of snapshots. We are just given glimpses, but never once did I dubiousness Clooneys making love for his wife.

This is a fantastic, devout performance by Clooney, world Health Organization has selfsame little dialog. He still manages to display vulnerability, hope, and a great sense of yearning in one of his selfsame best performances. While Jeremy Davies turns in a terrific bit part as an eccentric person crew member and Natascha McElhone is a ray of light as Clooneys wife, it is the ex-ER mavin who carries the pic, with his portrayal of a psychologist forced to deal with his possess problems.

There has been much spill about Solaris in the press of late, most notably Soderberghs round with the MPAA. To the directors shock, the film was given an R military rank because of a scene in which we see Mr. Clooneys bare bottom. After Soderbergh appealed, Solaris was justifiably given a PG-13. Hopefully, the promotion will help the cinema, for this is non an easy picture to market. Its safe to say that it belike wont find a huge audience. Thats a shame too, because Solaris is a fascinating, poetic oddysey.

Solaris was a film I was looking forth to rather a bit. Ive always followed Soderberghs films and with afew exceptions (Full Frontal) have been very impressed. Unfortunately I receive to be to take issue when it comes to solaris - the ticket line should have read "Solaris - A Waste of Space." It was just tedious, and when I wasnt bored to tears I was confused. I can appreciate a film that Im not fully supposed to empathize like 2001, but this film is not Kubrick and I think you gave it an frightfully generous rating. Thanks

Solaris was not the best if you wish sex scenes guns and violence. Simply if you like slow developing romance and drama this motion-picture show is exellent. George Clooney plays a psychologist mourning the death of his wife. He is asked to journey to a space place called Solaris, to determine why the scientists on board have cut off contact with Earth. When Clooney arrives, he finds that the crew ar not at all themselves, and within a short period of time, he begins to have unusual visions.

This movie was so oil production. More self trip than Space Odyssey.

I simply watched this dvd once more tonight, and I couldnt agree more than with Mr. Masts revue. This is an levelheaded, thought agitating movie which will, I believe, be most appreciated by intelligent people. The performances by George Clooney, Natascha McElhone, and Jeremy Davies, were excellent. The whole appearance and atmosphere of this movie, including the music score, is sedate, deep, pensive, and beautiful. Anyone who has known loss will appreciate this narration even more. It brought tears for me, and is a valued addition to my dvd collection.

On the whole, it was a refreshing variety of stride from the the standard sci-fi fare, though its not for those crave pulse-pounding activeness and blaster play. I liked the character Nose candy because he reminded me of my roommate from college. Solaris did seem to suffer from the "Seatle Syndrome" cliche seen in previous near-future films like BladeRunner, merely the tarradiddle more than makes up for this. I was the first gear sci-fi motion-picture show Ive bought home in awhile that my GF loved.

Movie review Varsity Blues (1999)

Varsity Blues has the distinct pleasure of being one of the worst sports films Ive ever seen–even surpassing Major League 3. Epistle of James Van Der Beek (Dawsons Creek) plays a heights school football game player world Health Organization is loved by everyone. The just problem is that he wants an academic vocation instead of a football field one. Thats a substitution! When the teams star quarterback is injured, its up to Van Der Beek to take the team to the finals.

The high spot of this film is the brilliant performance of Jon Voight as the self-serving football game coach. He takes what was an obviously linear role and it turns it into a imitation of a monstrous human being. Unluckily, not fifty-fifty he backside save this ridiculous film. Even the football sequences are clumsily directed.

After the sens had absolved and the credits had rolled, I didnt care what had happened to any of the characters. I was just looking for the exit.

Movie review Zoolander (2001)

Zoolander is one of those goofy pleasures that has no other accusative but to make us laugh for ninety proceedings. And granted the tragical events that occurred in the first place in September, this moving-picture show is a perfect recreation. Based on a part Ben Stiller created for the VH1 Fashion Awards a few years back, Zoolander tells the story of a world noted super framework caught in a sinister web of intrigue.

Stiller is the title fibre, a dimwitted, yet sympathetic model world Health Organization is brainwashed into doing some filthy work for crazy fashion designer Jacobim Mugatu (a hilarious Will Ferell). If that werent bad sufficiency, he must deal with the fact that rival super example Hansel (terrifically funny Owen Wilson) has stolen his thunder. Id guess you could call Zoolander a strange mix of Capital of Texas Powers and The Manchurian Candidate. Like Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Zoolander keeps the jokes coming immobile and angry. But unlike the Kevin Smith jest fest, Stillers latest directive effort isnt quite as consistent. Sure, there ar plenty of laugh out loud moments, but some of the gags here are quite tiresome (I got really tired of Derek Zoolander mispronouncing run-in).

Still, I really admired this pictures spirit. It is, later all, a comedy and Stiller never even attempts to take things remotely seriously. Hes also rounded up a most impressive cameo roll that features the likes of Jacques Louis David Duchovny, Winona Ryder, Natalie Portman, Jon Voight, Vince Vaughn, Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding Jr., Sandra Bernhard, Billy Zane, Andy Gumshoe and Ben Stillers possess parents Jerry Stiller and Ann Meara–as well as countless others. Hes fifty-fifty bagged a certain rock star that I testament not reveal in this review.

As much as I enjoyed Stillers clueless Zoolander theatrical role, I in truth felt that Owen Angus Frank Johnstone Wilson stole the show with that unique comic rhythm that makes him such an interesting talent. From the runway competitions to the bemock magazine covers, Zoolander has some rightfully big laughs. It also has likeable heroes. And while Stillers comic ode to male person super models isnt quite perfect, its a blaze of a lot better than that dismal Head Over Heals movie from earlier this year. Zoolander really put me in a full mood.

Movie review Paycheck (2003)

Phillip K. Dick must be wheeling over in his tomb after watching this one. It also has a lot in common with Sum Recall […]

From the guys wHO watched every action flick ever made and brought you Shaun of the Dead, comes Hot Blur, the well-nigh deliriously entertaining comedy your likely to see all year.

Movie review Small Soldiers (1998)

Finally an impressive particular effects exposure. Small Soldiers does hurt from the same problem as many special personal effects films–it doesnt offer a lot of interesting human interaction–but boy does it deliver technically. Joe Dante, who directed the evenly entertaining Gremlins and Innerspace, has made a selfsame entertaining and technically advanced film.
Small Soldiers is […]
